Error Detection Codes


Error detection codes are a set of algorithms and techniques used to detect errors in digital data transmission or storage. These codes are designed to identify errors caused by noise, interference, or other factors that can corrupt data during transmission or storage. The most common types of error detection codes include parity check, cyclic redundancy check (CRC), and checksum. Parity check is a simple technique that adds an extra bit to each byte of data to ensure that the total number of 1s in the byte is even or odd. CRC is a more complex technique that uses a polynomial division algorithm to generate a checksum that can detect errors in the data. Checksum is another simple technique that generates a sum of all the bytes in the data and compares it to a precomputed value to detect errors.
