Checksum
Checksum is a method used to detect errors in data transmission or storage. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, checksum is used to ensure the accuracy of data transmitted between spacecraft and ground stations or between different spacecraft systems. The checksum is calculated by adding up all the bytes in a data packet and generating a unique value that is sent along with the data. When the data is received, the checksum is recalculated and compared to the original value. If the two values match, the data is considered to be error-free. If the values do not match, the data is corrupted and needs to be retransmitted or corrected. Checksum is an important tool for ensuring the reliability of spacecraft communication and data storage systems.
