Segmented Structures

Segmented structures refer to spacecraft or launch vehicles that are composed of multiple segments or stages, each of which has its own propulsion system and is discarded once its fuel is depleted. This allows for a more efficient use of fuel and a reduction in the overall weight of the spacecraft or launch vehicle. Segmented structures are commonly used in space exploration missions, such as the Saturn V rocket that was used in the Apollo program. The rocket was composed of three stages, each of which was discarded once its fuel was used up. Segmented structures are also used in the design of spacecraft, such as the International Space Station, which was assembled in orbit using multiple segments that were launched separately and then connected together.
