PTSD

PTSD stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental health condition that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a traumatic event, such as a natural disaster, a serious accident, a terrorist act, war/combat, or physical or sexual assault. Symptoms of PTSD can include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, astronauts may experience PTSD due to the stress and trauma of spaceflight, such as the risk of equipment failure, isolation, and exposure to radiation. NASA has developed programs to help astronauts cope with the psychological challenges of spaceflight, including counseling and support services.
