Magnetic Properties
Magnetic properties refer to the behavior of materials in the presence of magnetic fields. In space and astronautical engineering, understanding the magnetic properties of materials is crucial for designing and operating spacecraft and other equipment. Magnetic properties include magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, and coercivity. Magnetization is the measure of the magnetic moment per unit volume of a material when it is placed in a magnetic field. Magnetic susceptibility is the degree of magnetization of a material in response to a magnetic field. Coercivity is the measure of the ability of a material to resist demagnetization. Understanding these properties is important for designing magnetic shielding to protect spacecraft and equipment from the effects of space radiation and for developing magnetic propulsion systems.
