Magnetic Shielding

Magnetic shielding is the practice of reducing the magnetic field in a given space. In space and astronautical engineering, magnetic shielding is used to protect spacecraft and astronauts from the harmful effects of space radiation. Space radiation is composed of high-energy particles that can damage electronic equipment and harm living organisms. Magnetic shielding works by creating a magnetic field that cancels out the incoming radiation, thus protecting the spacecraft and its occupants. Magnetic shielding is an important technology for long-duration space missions, such as those to Mars or beyond, where astronauts will be exposed to high levels of radiation for extended periods of time.
