Ionized Gases

Ionized gases are gases that have been energized to the point where some or all of the atoms have lost one or more electrons, resulting in the formation of ions. In space and astronautical engineering, ionized gases are of particular interest due to their unique properties and behavior in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Ionized gases can be found in a variety of space environments, including the ionosphere, the solar wind, and plasma thrusters. The study of ionized gases is important for understanding the behavior of these environments and for developing technologies that utilize plasma, such as plasma propulsion systems and plasma-based weapons.
