Convergent-divergent

Convergent-divergent is a type of nozzle used in rocket engines to accelerate the exhaust gases to supersonic speeds. It consists of a converging section followed by a diverging section. The converging section compresses the exhaust gases and increases their velocity, while the diverging section expands the exhaust gases and converts their thermal energy into kinetic energy. This process increases the thrust generated by the rocket engine. Convergent-divergent nozzles are particularly effective in vacuum conditions, where there is no atmospheric pressure to impede the exhaust flow. They are also used in supersonic aircraft engines to generate thrust.
