Bypass Ratio
Bypass ratio is the ratio of the mass of the air that bypasses the combustion section of a gas turbine engine to the mass of air that passes through the engine core. In other words, it is the ratio of the amount of air that is not burned in the engine to the amount of air that is burned. A high bypass ratio means that a large amount of air bypasses the engine core and is instead accelerated by the fan and directed around the engine. This results in a more efficient engine with a higher thrust-to-weight ratio, lower fuel consumption, and lower noise levels. Bypass ratio is an important parameter in the design of modern turbofan engines, which are widely used in commercial aviation.
