Turbofan
A turbofan is a type of air-breathing jet engine that is widely used in aircraft propulsion. It consists of a gas turbine engine that drives a fan to produce thrust. The fan is enclosed in a duct, which allows for a portion of the incoming air to bypass the engine core and be accelerated out the back of the engine, creating additional thrust. This bypass air also helps to cool the engine, making it more efficient. Turbofans are known for their high fuel efficiency and low noise levels, making them a popular choice for commercial airliners. They are also used in military aircraft and some spacecraft propulsion systems.
