
Arc Heating
Arc heating is a process of heating a material using an electric arc. In space and astronautical engineering, arc heating is used to simulate the extreme heat generated during atmospheric re-entry of spacecraft. During re-entry, the spacecraft experiences high temperatures due to friction with the atmosphere. Arc heating is used to test the thermal protection system of the spacecraft to ensure that it can withstand the high temperatures.
