Subsystem

In space and astronautical engineering, a subsystem is a self-contained unit within a larger system that performs a specific function. Subsystems are designed to work together to achieve the overall mission objectives of a spacecraft or launch vehicle. Examples of subsystems include propulsion, power, thermal control, guidance and navigation, communication, and payload. Each subsystem has its own set of requirements, interfaces, and performance metrics that must be met in order to ensure the success of the mission. Subsystems are often developed by different teams or contractors and must be integrated and tested together to ensure they function properly as a whole system.
