Static Electricity
Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. It occurs when there is a buildup of electric charge on the surface of a material, which can be caused by friction, contact with another material, or an external electric field. In space and astronautical engineering, static electricity can be a significant problem as it can interfere with sensitive electronic equipment and cause damage to spacecraft. Engineers must take measures to prevent static buildup, such as grounding the spacecraft and using materials that are less likely to generate static charges.
