Solid-state Detectors


Solid-state detectors are devices used in space and astronautical engineering to detect and measure ionizing radiation. They are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon or germanium, which are sensitive to charged particles and photons. When ionizing radiation interacts with the semiconductor material, it creates electron-hole pairs, which can be detected as an electrical signal. Solid-state detectors are commonly used in space missions to measure cosmic rays, solar particles, and radiation from the Van Allen belts. They are also used in medical imaging, nuclear power plants, and particle physics experiments.
