Rocket Engine
A rocket engine is a type of jet engine that uses only stored rocket propellants to generate its high-speed propulsive jet. Rocket engines are reaction engines, producing thrust in accordance with Newton's third law. Rocket engines are used in spacecraft propulsion, where they are used for the propulsion of spacecraft into and through space, and also in the propulsion of satellites, space probes, and other spacecraft. Rocket engines are also used in the propulsion of missiles, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), and in the propulsion of aircraft, where they are used in the propulsion of experimental aircraft and in the propulsion of high-speed aircraft. Rocket engines are typically powered by liquid propellants, such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, or by solid propellants, such as ammonium perchlorate composite propellant (APCP) and hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) propellant.
