Radioactivity
Radioactivity is the spontaneous emission of particles or radiation from the nucleus of an unstable atom, resulting in the transformation of one element into another. In space and astronautical engineering, radioactivity is a concern due to the potential harmful effects of ionizing radiation on spacecraft and astronauts. Cosmic rays, solar flares, and other sources of radiation can cause damage to electronic equipment and biological tissue. Therefore, spacecraft and spacesuits are designed with radiation shielding materials to protect against these harmful effects. Additionally, radiation monitoring systems are used to measure the levels of radiation exposure during space missions.
