Optical System

An optical system is a collection of optical components that work together to manipulate light. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, optical systems are used for a variety of purposes, including remote sensing, imaging, and communication. Remote sensing systems use optical systems to collect data about the Earth and other celestial bodies, while imaging systems use them to capture images of these bodies. Communication systems use optical systems to transmit information between spacecraft and between spacecraft and ground stations. Optical systems can include lenses, mirrors, filters, detectors, and other components, and they can operate in a variety of wavelengths, from ultraviolet to infrared. Designing and building optical systems for space applications requires careful consideration of factors such as weight, size, power consumption, and radiation resistance.
