Neutron Stars
Neutron stars are the collapsed cores of massive stars that have undergone a supernova explosion. They are incredibly dense, with a mass greater than that of the sun packed into a sphere with a radius of only a few kilometers. Neutron stars are composed almost entirely of neutrons, with a thin crust of heavier elements. They have extremely strong magnetic fields and can rotate rapidly, emitting beams of electromagnetic radiation that can be observed as pulsars. The study of neutron stars provides insights into the behavior of matter under extreme conditions, the nature of gravity, and the origin of heavy elements in the universe.
