Electromagnetic Radiation


Electromagnetic radiation refers to the energy propagated through space in the form of electromagnetic waves. These waves are characterized by their frequency, wavelength, and amplitude. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, electromagnetic radiation plays a crucial role in communication, navigation, and remote sensing. Radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays are all forms of electromagnetic radiation. In space, electromagnetic radiation can be used to transmit information between spacecraft and ground stations, to navigate spacecraft, and to gather information about distant objects through remote sensing. However, exposure to high levels of electromagnetic radiation can be harmful to humans and spacecraft, and must be carefully managed.
