Ionic Conductivity

Ionic conductivity is the ability of a material to conduct electric current through the movement of ions. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, ionic conductivity is an important property for materials used in batteries, fuel cells, and other energy storage and conversion devices. The ability of a material to conduct ions is dependent on factors such as temperature, pressure, and the presence of impurities. In space applications, materials with high ionic conductivity are desirable for their ability to efficiently store and convert energy in the harsh environment of space. Research in ionic conductivity is ongoing, with the goal of developing new materials with improved properties for use in space applications.
