Ions

In space and astronautical engineering, ions are electrically charged particles that can be found in the plasma environment of space. Ions can be created through various processes such as photoionization, collisional ionization, and ionization by solar wind. They play a crucial role in the dynamics of space plasmas and are important for understanding phenomena such as magnetic reconnection, auroras, and space weather. Ions can also be used for propulsion in space through ion thrusters, which work by accelerating ions to high speeds and expelling them out of a spacecraft to generate thrust.
