Intrusion Detection System
An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a security technology designed to detect and prevent unauthorized access to computer systems and networks. IDS monitors network traffic and system activity for signs of malicious activity, such as attempts to exploit vulnerabilities or unauthorized access attempts. IDS can be either network-based or host-based. Network-based IDS monitors network traffic for suspicious activity, while host-based IDS monitors activity on individual computers or servers. IDS can be further classified as signature-based or anomaly-based. Signature-based IDS uses a database of known attack patterns to identify and block malicious activity, while anomaly-based IDS uses machine learning algorithms to detect deviations from normal system behavior. IDS plays a critical role in maintaining the security of computer systems and networks, and is often used in conjunction with other security technologies, such as firewalls and antivirus software.
