Hypergolic Fuels


Hypergolic fuels are a type of rocket propellant that ignite spontaneously upon contact with an oxidizer, without the need for an ignition source. These fuels are commonly used in spacecraft propulsion systems due to their reliability and simplicity. Hypergolic fuels are typically composed of a fuel and an oxidizer, such as hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide, which are highly toxic and require careful handling. Despite their hazards, hypergolic fuels are preferred for spacecraft propulsion because they can be stored for long periods of time without the need for active cooling or heating, and can be easily ignited in the vacuum of space. Hypergolic fuels are also used in satellite thrusters, where they provide precise control of the spacecraft's orientation and position.
