Host-based IDS

Host-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a security mechanism that monitors and analyzes the activity and behavior of a single host or endpoint to detect and prevent unauthorized access, malicious activities, and policy violations. It collects and analyzes data from various sources such as system logs, file integrity checks, network connections, and system calls to identify potential security threats and anomalies. Host-based IDS can detect attacks that bypass network-based IDS, such as insider attacks, zero-day exploits, and targeted attacks. It can also provide detailed information about the attack, including the source, type, and severity of the threat, which can help in incident response and forensic analysis.
