Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) Mission


The Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) Mission is a joint project between NASA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) that uses twin satellites to measure changes in Earth's gravity field and their relation to climate change. The satellites orbit the Earth in tandem formation, constantly measuring the distance between them to detect changes in gravity caused by variations in the mass of the planet below. These measurements provide valuable data on the movement of water, ice, and land masses, which can be used to monitor changes in sea level, track the melting of polar ice caps, and study the dynamics of Earth's interior. The GRACE mission has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of the Earth system and its response to climate change.
