Defunct Satellites

Defunct satellites refer to artificial satellites that are no longer operational or functioning as intended. These satellites may have reached the end of their operational lifespan, malfunctioned, or been intentionally decommissioned. Defunct satellites can pose a risk to active satellites and spacecraft in orbit due to the potential for collisions and the creation of space debris. The increasing amount of space debris in orbit is a growing concern for space agencies and companies as it can cause damage to operational satellites and spacecraft. Efforts are being made to mitigate the amount of space debris through measures such as deorbiting defunct satellites and designing satellites with the ability to maneuver and avoid collisions.
