Cardiovascular Deconditioning


Cardiovascular deconditioning is the physiological adaptation of the cardiovascular system to microgravity environments. In microgravity, the heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood to the upper body, resulting in a decrease in overall blood volume and a decrease in the size and strength of the heart. This can lead to a decrease in aerobic capacity and an increase in heart rate, which can cause fatigue, dizziness, and even fainting upon return to Earth's gravity. Astronauts must engage in regular exercise and cardiovascular training while in space to prevent cardiovascular deconditioning and maintain their overall health.
