Visual Flight Rules


Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going. Essentially, these rules rely on visual reference to the ground and the horizon to navigate and control the aircraft. The pilot must be able to operate the aircraft with visual reference to the ground, and by visually avoiding obstructions and other aircraft. If the weather conditions are such that the pilot cannot operate the aircraft under visual flight rules, instrument flight rules (IFR) must be used instead. VFR is significant in aerospace engineering as it impacts the design of aircraft cockpits, the development of navigation systems, and the creation of safety protocols. It is also a critical consideration in the planning and execution of flight operations, particularly in relation to weather conditions and visibility.
