Transponder


A transponder is an electronic device that receives a signal and automatically transmits a different signal in response. In space and astronautical engineering, transponders are commonly used in communication and navigation systems. They receive signals from ground stations or other spacecraft and retransmit them back to Earth or other spacecraft. Transponders are also used in satellite-based navigation systems, such as GPS, to determine the precise location of a spacecraft or other object in space. In addition, transponders are used in radar systems to detect and track objects in space, such as debris or other spacecraft.
