Tidal Effects

Tidal effects refer to the gravitational forces exerted by celestial bodies, such as the moon and the sun, on the Earth and other celestial objects. These forces cause the deformation of the shape of the celestial object, resulting in tides on Earth and other planets with oceans. In space and astronautical engineering, tidal effects are important to consider in the design and operation of spacecraft and satellites in orbit around celestial bodies. Tidal forces can cause orbital decay, which can lead to collisions or other mission-ending events. Additionally, tidal forces can be harnessed for propulsion, such as in the case of tidal acceleration, which can be used to increase the speed of a spacecraft.
