Signal Constellation

In space and astronautical engineering, a signal constellation is a set of possible signal states used by a modulation scheme to represent a symbol. It is a mapping of a finite number of message signals to a finite number of codewords. The signal constellation is typically represented graphically, with the amplitude and phase of each signal state plotted on an I-Q diagram. The choice of signal constellation affects the performance of the communication system, including its data rate, error rate, and bandwidth efficiency. The most common signal constellations used in space communications are QPSK, 8PSK, and 16QAM.
