Selective Coating


Selective coating is a process of applying a thin film of material onto a surface of a spacecraft or satellite to control the temperature of the surface. The coating is designed to have high emissivity in the infrared region, which allows it to radiate heat efficiently into space, while having low absorptivity in the visible and near-infrared regions, which reduces the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the surface. This helps to maintain the temperature of the spacecraft or satellite within a desired range, which is critical for the proper functioning of its components and instruments. Selective coating is commonly used in spacecraft and satellite thermal control systems, where it is applied to surfaces such as solar panels, radiators, and antennas.
