Refrigeration
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from a space, substance, or system to lower and/or maintain its temperature below the ambient temperature. In space and astronautical engineering, refrigeration is a critical technology for maintaining the temperature of spacecraft and their payloads. Without refrigeration, spacecraft and their payloads would overheat, causing damage or failure. Refrigeration is also used to preserve food, medicine, and other perishable items during space missions. The most common refrigeration system used in space is the vapor-compression refrigeration system, which uses a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator to remove heat from the spacecraft and transfer it to the surrounding environment.
