Radiation Sickness

Radiation sickness, also known as acute radiation syndrome (ARS), is a collection of health effects that occur within several days of exposure to high amounts of ionizing radiation. The severity of symptoms depends on the amount of radiation absorbed by the body, the type of radiation, and the duration of exposure. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin burns, hair loss, and decreased organ function. In severe cases, radiation sickness can be fatal. Treatment may include medication to manage symptoms, blood transfusions, and bone marrow transplants. Prevention measures include limiting exposure to radiation, using protective equipment, and following safety protocols.
