Photogrammetry


Photogrammetry is the science of making measurements from photographs, especially for recovering the exact positions of surface points. In space and astronautical engineering, photogrammetry is used to create 3D models of celestial bodies, such as planets, moons, asteroids, and comets, by analyzing images taken by spacecraft cameras. Photogrammetry is also used to measure the relative positions and orientations of spacecraft components, such as solar panels, antennas, and instruments, by analyzing images taken by onboard cameras. Photogrammetry plays a critical role in space exploration missions, as it enables scientists and engineers to study the physical properties and geological features of celestial bodies, plan landing and sampling sites, and navigate spacecraft in deep space.
