
Neutron Source
A neutron source is a device that emits neutrons for various purposes such as scientific research, medical treatment, and industrial applications. In space and astronautical engineering, neutron sources are used for neutron radiography, neutron activation analysis, and neutron scattering experiments. Neutron sources can be either radioactive or non-radioactive. Radioactive neutron sources are typically made of isotopes such as americium-241, californium-252, and plutonium-238. Non-radioactive neutron sources are usually based on particle accelerators or nuclear reactors. In space missions, neutron sources are used to study the composition of planetary surfaces and to detect water and other volatiles. They are also used in nuclear propulsion systems for interplanetary travel.
