Neutron Attenuation

Neutron attenuation refers to the reduction in the number of neutrons as they pass through a material. This phenomenon occurs due to the interaction of neutrons with atomic nuclei in the material. The attenuation of neutrons is dependent on the energy of the neutrons, the composition and density of the material, and the thickness of the material. Neutron attenuation is an important concept in the design of shielding materials for nuclear reactors, as well as in the detection of neutrons in various applications such as neutron radiography and neutron scattering experiments.
