
National Science Foundation
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by the United States Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense. The NSF supports research and education in all non-medical fields of science and engineering. The agency funds research projects, research equipment and facilities, as well as education and training programs for students and researchers. The NSF also promotes international scientific cooperation and provides funding for research projects that involve collaboration with foreign researchers and institutions.
