Metal Matrix Composites
Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) are materials made by combining two or more materials, where one of them is a metal and the other is a reinforcing material such as ceramic, carbon, or organic compounds. The reinforcing material is embedded in the metal matrix to improve the mechanical, thermal, and physical properties of the resulting composite material. MMCs are widely used in the aerospace industry due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent wear resistance, and good thermal stability. They are used in the manufacturing of various components such as engine parts, rocket nozzles, and structural components of spacecraft. The properties of MMCs can be tailored by changing the type, size, and volume fraction of the reinforcing material, as well as the processing techniques used to manufacture the composite material.
