Map Projection

Map projection is the process of transforming the three-dimensional surface of the Earth onto a two-dimensional plane. This is necessary because it is impossible to represent the entire surface of the Earth on a flat map without some form of distortion. There are many different types of map projections, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Some projections preserve the shape of land masses accurately, while others preserve the relative sizes of countries and continents. Map projections are an important tool for space and astronautical engineers because they are used to create accurate maps of the Earth's surface, which are essential for navigation and for planning space missions.
