Laser Pulses

Laser pulses are short bursts of high-intensity light energy emitted by a laser. In space and astronautical engineering, laser pulses are used for a variety of purposes, including communication, propulsion, and remote sensing. Laser communication involves transmitting data via laser pulses, which can provide higher bandwidth and more secure communication than traditional radio frequency communication. Laser propulsion involves using laser pulses to propel spacecraft, which can potentially reach higher speeds than traditional chemical propulsion systems. Remote sensing involves using laser pulses to measure properties of the environment, such as distance, temperature, and atmospheric composition. This technique is used in applications such as lidar (light detection and ranging) and laser altimetry, which are used to study the Earth's surface and atmosphere, as well as other planets and moons in the solar system.
