Infrared Optics

Infrared Optics is a branch of optics that deals with the design and development of optical systems for the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Infrared Optics is used in a variety of applications such as thermal imaging, remote sensing, and spectroscopy. Infrared Optics involves the use of materials that are transparent to infrared radiation, such as germanium, silicon, and zinc selenide. The design of infrared optical systems requires consideration of factors such as chromatic aberration, thermal expansion, and the effects of temperature on the refractive index of materials. Infrared Optics is an important field in space and astronautical engineering as it is used in the design of instruments for space-based observations of the Earth and other planets, as well as for astronomical observations of stars and galaxies.
