Heat Transfer


Heat transfer is the process of exchanging thermal energy between physical systems. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, heat transfer is a critical aspect of designing spacecraft and space systems. The extreme temperatures and vacuum of space present unique challenges for managing heat transfer. There are three main modes of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is the transfer of heat through a material, such as the walls of a spacecraft. Convection is the transfer of heat through the movement of fluids, such as the circulation of coolant in a spacecraft's thermal control system. Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves, such as the heat radiated by the sun. Effective management of heat transfer is essential for ensuring the safety and functionality of spacecraft and space systems.
