Fluorescent Screen

A fluorescent screen is a type of screen used in spacecraft instruments to detect charged particles and electromagnetic radiation. It is made of a material that emits light when struck by high-energy particles or photons. The emitted light is then detected by a photomultiplier tube or other light-sensitive device, which converts it into an electrical signal that can be analyzed and used to determine the properties of the particles or radiation. Fluorescent screens are commonly used in instruments such as particle detectors, X-ray telescopes, and gamma-ray detectors.
