Fluid Shifts
Fluid Shifts refer to the redistribution of fluids in the body that occurs when an individual moves from a gravity-based environment to a microgravity environment, such as in space. In microgravity, the body's fluids shift upwards towards the head, causing a decrease in fluid volume in the legs and an increase in fluid volume in the upper body. This can lead to a variety of physiological changes, including changes in blood pressure, vision impairment, and alterations in kidney function. Astronauts on long-duration space missions must take measures to counteract fluid shifts, such as exercise, fluid intake, and the use of compression garments.
