Eddy Currents
Eddy currents are circular electric currents induced in conductive materials when they are exposed to a changing magnetic field. In space and astronautical engineering, eddy currents can cause unwanted heating and energy loss in spacecraft components, such as solar panels and antennas. However, eddy currents can also be harnessed for useful purposes, such as in electromagnetic braking systems for spacecraft reentry or in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) power generation systems for spacecraft propulsion.
