Digital Image

A digital image is a representation of a two-dimensional image as a finite set of digital values, typically generated by a computer. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, digital images are used extensively for remote sensing and scientific imaging. Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact with it. Digital images obtained through remote sensing are used to study the Earth's surface, atmosphere, and oceans, as well as other planets and celestial bodies. Scientific imaging involves the use of digital images to study physical phenomena such as fluid dynamics, combustion, and material properties in microgravity environments. Digital images are also used for spacecraft navigation and guidance, as well as for the analysis of data obtained from spacecraft instruments.
