Convolutional Codes
Convolutional codes are error-correcting codes used in digital communication systems to detect and correct errors that occur during transmission. They are based on the concept of convolution, which involves the combination of two signals to produce a third signal. In convolutional coding, the input data is processed through a shift register and combined with a set of pre-defined coefficients to produce a coded output. The coded output is then transmitted over a noisy channel, where errors may occur. The receiver uses a decoding algorithm to correct the errors and recover the original data. Convolutional codes are widely used in satellite and deep space communications, as well as in wireless and cellular networks.
