Concentrated Solar Power
Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is a technology that uses mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area of sunlight onto a small area. The concentrated light is then converted into heat, which can be used to generate electricity through a steam turbine or heat engine. CSP systems can be classified into four types: parabolic trough, power tower, dish/engine, and linear Fresnel reflector. CSP technology has the potential to provide a reliable and dispatchable source of renewable energy, as it can store thermal energy in molten salt or other materials for use when the sun is not shining. CSP plants can also be combined with other forms of energy generation, such as natural gas, to provide a more stable source of power. CSP technology is particularly suited for use in areas with high levels of direct sunlight, such as deserts.
