Amperes


Amperes, often shortened to amps, is the unit of electric current in the International System of Units (SI). In space and astronautical engineering, amperes are used to measure the flow of electric charge in electrical systems, such as those found in spacecraft and satellites. The amperage of a system is important to monitor and control, as too much current can cause damage to electrical components and too little can result in system failure. In addition, amperes are used in the design and testing of electric propulsion systems, which are used to propel spacecraft through space using electrically charged particles. The measurement of amperes is typically done using an ammeter, which is a device that measures the flow of electric current in a circuit.
